What is it?
Close-up magic is magic performed on a personal level at close-quarters to the audience. This type of magic tends to be performed for small groups and the whole point is that as many people in the group become involved with the magic as possible. Josh makes a particular point of using peoples’ hands to hold things, and the hands of the audience is often where the magic actually happens.
Close-up magic is highly versatile and self-contained: there is no need for sound equipment, particular lighting or to force the audience to be in a particular place. In addition, only ‘everyday’ objects are used, as opposed to the elaborate props that are common in larger-scale magic acts. Therefore, Josh can perform close-up magic anywhere and any time, provided there is an audience!
Josh’s close-up magic can be tailored to suit your needs in one of two forms:
- Stand-up, mixing with the guests
- At tables
Tricks that Josh perform use items such as cards, coins, balls, rope, borrowed items, salt, cutlery and more. In addition, Josh performs acts of ‘mentalism’ (aka mind-reading) using the minds of the audience as the platform for the magic.
